Healthy Lashes 101

Healthy Lashes 101

We've all been there.   It's been an awful day, but we finally make it home.  We get a little too comfortable on the sofa and fall asleep without going through our nighttime routine. The worst part is that we didn't remove our mascara!

The next morning we face the consequences and vow to take better care of ourselves - including our eyelashes.

Step One: The Eyelash Comb
Using an eyelash comb offers several benefits for achieving beautifully defined lashes.  After cleansing, a quality comb will help separate and detangle individual lashes.  This will prevent clumping and give you a more natural look.  By properly combing your lashes, you will evenly distribute mascara, ensuring that every lash is coated for maximum length and volume.

A good combing will help remove excess mascara, reducing the risk of smudging or flaking throughout the day.  This will help you achieve the flawless and polished finish that we all want.

Step Two: Eyelash Serum
Find a good quality lash serum that works for you.  All serums are not created equal.  For the finest quality, you will need a prescription.  However, there are some great choices to be found over the counter, especially if your goals are thicker lashes that fall out less.
Moisturizing with almond oil, castor oil and Vitamin E have all shown benefits for some people.  For a deep dive, this is what the National Library Of Medicine has to say.

Step Three:  Cycle your Routine
Like everything else in life, it can be easy to get into the same pattern, day after day.  We suggest that you periodically take a break for a few days, maybe even switch brands.  It's best to err on the side of caution, so be sure to read labels and talk to a professional when it comes to your health.

Step Three:  Diet
A few dietary adjustments can significantly enhance the health of your eyelashes, as well as benefiting your skin and hair over time.  Ensure you're staying hydrated, consuming sufficient protein, leafy greens, and healthy fats.  With a little patience, these steps all help to promote robust hair growth.

The Takeaway
Our eyelashes take a lot of abuse, so they need to be well taken care of.  The good news is that eyelashes have a life cycle.  We lose and regrow new lashes continually.  So if you have an eyelash catastrophe, stay calm and remember that with a little time and improved care, your lashes will heal and be back better than before.
