Remember those last few weeks before summer vacation when just getting through the school day felt like torture? Everyone was on edge—kids were annoying each other, and even the teachers seemed extra grumpy.
I was usually the type to follow the rules and hated the idea of getting into trouble. But in the spring of my senior year, I just couldn't take it anymore. Graduation was just a few weeks away, and life felt like it was moving in slow motion.
Enough was enough
One day, I decided enough was enough—I was going to skip class. I had it all mapped out. I'd slip out during study hall, have a long lunch with some friends at Taco Bell (which was super cool back then), and then sneak back in for choir practice.
Since I often left for legit extracurricular activities, I figured no one would notice. I was nervous as heck since breaking the rules wasn't my style, but I brushed off those anxious thoughts and went for it. Everything was going smoothly. I got out of school, enjoyed my bean burritos, and was thinking, ‘Why didn’t I do this sooner?’
Busted
But just my luck, that day campus security decided to patrol the grounds right when I was driving back. I got caught. They marched me through the lunch crowd in a humiliating walk of shame straight to the principal’s office.
If I had just waited a few more days, I would've been free and clear. Taking matters into my own hands caused so much anxiety and trouble that could have been avoided if I had just been patient and stuck with the plan.
In 2 Peter 3:8, truth says, "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."
Friends, Trust in His timing.
Consider This:
When you’re hyper focused on YOUR plans to make things God has laid on your heart happen what you end up actually doing is manufacturing restlessness and anxiety. His timing is perfect. It’s divine.
As you release those things in your heart to Him and trust that He is working you begin to relax into His strength, feeling lighter and more free. He is not late with anything. Ever. And He is relentlessly working for your good. Keep trusting!
Pray with me?
Lord, Thank you for releasing your grace to us. There is much to be learned and developed in the long haul with you. We don’t want to miss a single thing. Help us to keep trusting.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
