How To Stop Worrying (This Is What I Do)

By Stephanie Stephenson

I grew up in a very positive environment. My mom made sure that every holiday was special for each of us kids. She was at every game, event, and musical we were a part of and was our biggest encourager to pursue our dreams and, most importantly, to follow after God's heart. She instilled in us so many wonderful qualities.

Yet, amidst all the beautiful things she affirmed in us, the mom of my early life was plagued with worry. That worry crept into my life and created in me a scarcity mentality that stuck with me until only a few short years ago.

As I matured in Christ, I realized that worry and envisioning the worst-case scenario were her truths, not mine, and most specifically, not God's. Living in a state of worry never brought her life or changed the circumstances in mine; it only brought anxiety.

Still to this day, I periodically find myself trying to go to that familiar mental space. I’m thankful God has brought me awareness so that I may walk in freedom.

In John 14:1, truth says, "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me." Friends, never in the history of the world, has worry brought about a positive result.

Consider This:
You were created in the image of God. God is all things good. He is love, joy,
peace, patience, the list goes on. Worry is not on that list, nor part of that plan. That is why when you worry it feels horrible.

Worry doesn’t bring you closer to God, it does the opposite! It pushes you further away from faith and actually slows down the transformative process of breakthrough.

When you cast your cares on God, your belief in His power to work activates and brings you peace. Peace IS an attribute that you were created to live in.

Pray with me?
Lord, Thank you for giving us the perfect place to live with life and freedom. I pray for my friend that is so used to going to the worst case scenario, that he/she begins to realize that letting go of the worry, is the key to accepting His peace and allowing Him to work!
In Jesus Name,
Amen
