I can vividly recall a time when my entire world seemed to revolve around the idea of marrying my high school boyfriend, Garrett. As someone who had never really dated before, the attention he showed me left me elated beyond measure.
A shy choir girl who came alive on stage during school musicals, I was deeply insecure and an ardent people pleaser, largely a result of the challenging circumstances I faced as a young child.
Despite these underlying insecurities, I believed I was in love, so much so that I lost myself in our relationship. I began to isolate myself from family and friends, even ostracizing my own parents, convinced that Garrett was essential for my wholeness.
Though my loved ones observed how the relationship was dimming my light and harming my spirit, I remained blind to it all, ensnared by the illusion of love. My fears and insecurities convinced me that I needed him to be complete, but in reality, he was the last thing I needed.
In Colossians 2:10 truth says, “And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:"
It was only after some time and significant life changes that I came to realize the profound truth: I was already whole as a child of the King, possessing within me everything I needed.
I didn't require another person to complete me.
Friends, stop looking for something or someone to fulfill you.
Consider This:
Many of us believe that to feel complete, we need someone or something—whether it's driven by long-held beliefs, the desire to fit in, personal insecurities, or romantic daydreams. But that's actually not true.
When you accept Christ, you become a new creation, reborn with everything you need for growth and maturity. You're already complete. Nothing outside of you can compare to what you already have inside, thanks to your faith in Jesus.
It's a game-changer to realize that true fulfillment doesn't come from others or from things, but from the incredible love and purpose you find in your relationship with Christ.
Pray with me?
Lord, thank you for making us complete and whole. We don’t need to search for something new because what we received when we decided to follow you fulfills every longing of our hearts.
Help us let go of those old patterns of thinking and give them to you, so we can experience the fullness of life—your life in and through us!
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
