5 Fall Travel Destinations For The Whole Family

5 Fall Travel Destinations For The Whole Family

By Debra Pamplin

Fall is in the air, and you know what that means! Pumpkin flavored everything; crisp, cool temps; plenty of scarecrows, corn mazes and color-changing leaves.

With that in mind, check out these five places that serve up equal parts fun and fall scenery.

1. Dollywood
This Pigeon Forge, Tennessee staple is a great place to spend a day or two.

"Fall is a special time in the Smoky Mountains. The changing colors of the leaves remind us to pause and reflect on the beauty that surrounds us."

Currently ranking as the Number one theme park in the U.S., the harvest festival runs now through October 28th.

Bonus Tip: 2-day tickets available throughout the year.

2. Great Smoky Mountains National Park
While near the Smoky Mountains, your family will enjoy time at this location, that is also ranked #1. Take the scenic drives or the mild hiking trails to take in the natural beauty that the most visited national park can provide.

Beautiful color-changing leaves and landscapes provide a backdrop to plenty of active wildlife including the crowd favorite-the black bear.

Fun fact: within the 816 square miles of the national park, there are more than 1,900 black bears, which is about two bears per square mile. Chances are, there will be a sighting, so don’t forget the camera.

Silver Dollar City - Branson, MO

3. Silver Dollar City
Similar to Dollywood in many ways, this Branson, MO theme park provides a beautiful setting with the Ozark Mountains.

With a dedicated kids ride zone, a train ride throughout the park and fall foliage views within the entire park, a day at this Midwest attraction is always a good idea.

Did I mention they have pumpkins? Thousands of pumpkins light up the sky right after sundown, with some carved masterpieces reaching heights of more than 30 feet.

4. Orlando
Sunny Florida might not have the same fall foliage as other destinations on this list, but there is no shortage of pumpkins at Mickey’s house.

Disney World and many other attractions within this city go all out for fall. If you are traveling with teens, it is possible they will love Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights.

Leave the cool temps behind when you and your family enjoy fall-Florida style.
Pause the sweaters and keep those shorts and T-shirts handy for this outing.

5. Boston
For the ultimate fall outing, consider a stroll through Beantown.

Spend a few hours in the orchard picking fresh apples, or do some whale watching.

Spending the day at the LEGO Discovery Center is another excellent choice.

Join in the Brick-or-Treat: Monster Party that runs daily from September 28th-October 31st.
There is a lot to see and do in the Boston area, and Fall is a great time to visit!

The Takeaway
While any of these five destinations are great for fall fun, the hard part is deciding which location to visit first!
